Thank you for visiting the Public Safety and Fire Prevention Page for the Aspinwall Volunteer Fire Department. We hope the information shared below will assist you in maintaining a safe and healthy household and way of life.
Carbon Monoxide Detectors Information:
Install and maintain CO alarms inside your home to provide early warning of high, unhealthy levels of carbon monoxide in your residence. In 2013, PA enacted a new law that requires at least one carbon monoxide detector be installed in each unit of all multi-family residences by 2015. (The Carbon Monoxide Alarm Standards Act, PA Senate Bill 607)
CO alarms should be installed in a central location outside each separate sleeping area and on every level of the home.
Choose a CO alarm that has the label of a recognized testing laboratory.
CO alarms are not substitutes for smoke alarms. Know the difference between the sound of smoke alarms and the sound of CO alarms.
There are combination CO and Smoke Detectors available for purchase, should you want to go that route.
Smoke Detectors Save Lives!
Please don't think, "It can't happen to me!" We lose a lot of great family members and friends each and every year to fire related deaths. When you compare those kind of losses to the cost of a few smoke detectors, doesn't it make sense to install them and make sure they're working? Here's some more facts...
- Three out of five home fire deaths result from fires in properties without working smoke alarms.
- More than one-third (37 percent) of home fire deaths result from fires in which no smoke alarms are present.
- The risk of dying in a home fire is cut in half in homes with working smoke alarms.
Please install smoke alarms and please change those batteries, if you already have smoke detectors.
In Pennsylvania, all residences shall have a smoke detector in each bedroom, on all levels, including basements and occupied attics.
